Student Council Bonding Ideas | High School Spirit Items

If you are a school administrator or a student council representative and want to help your group bond and showcase school spirit, then keep reading. The student council members are the leaders of school pride in a way. They are the voice of the students and can easily set a tone for the school year. Wearing high school spirit items like t-shirts and hats and promoting school pride in other ways is a big part of being a student council member. Here we discuss a few ways to keep the pride going in the group and for the rest of the school.

Retreats: Take the student council members off-site for some bonding activities. Play games and host workshops where members have to solve a puzzle, go on a scavenger hunt or solve a mock student council problem. Anything that promotes team building and has the students working together to reach a common goal.

Volunteering: Have the student council students volunteer as a group. They could visit an animal shelter, read to the elderly, or do clean up around the school or community. Giving back together is a great bonding experience.

Fundraising: What better way to spread school spirit than raising money for your school selling high school apparel? T-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants and more are just some of the items that can be customized with your school’s name, mascot or insignia. Programs like Rokkitwear offer free online stores where you customize your high school spirit items and then sell them, with part of the proceeds going right back to the school.

The student council can help bring the school together in many ways. Here a bunch of events the student council can host to come together but also unite the students:

  • Freshman orientation
  • Welcome back dance
  • Ice cream social
  • Blood drives
  • Decorating the halls
  • Homecoming and prom
  • Pep rallies
  • Canned food drive
  • Spirit week
  • Graduation
  • More!

Having a student council that demonstrates unity and school spirit will go a long way in getting the rest of the student body excited and involved. Once the votes are in and the student council members are elected, that is just the beginning. It is important to keep delivering results, bringing on the school spirit and representing classmates.

Generate School Spirit at your High School with Spirit Week

Are you a high school administrator or other staff member at a high school? With the new school year starting, get students excited about the upcoming year by hosting a spirit week. This is a fun way to get incoming freshman excited about the new school they are starting at, and hopefully feeling a little less apprehensive. It’s also a great way for seniors to really enjoy their last year in high school with their friends before setting off to college. Of course, it is also fun for all grade levels in between!

Kicking off spirit week around the beginning of the year when football season is getting into full swing is a perfect time to start the festivities. A few spirit events we have thought of include:

Have a different theme each day:  Wear school colors day, costume day, dress like your favorite teacher day, or any other idea you may have.

Decorate the school in the school colors: Staff or students can have fun decking the halls with colorful streamers, posters of the school mascot and balloons. Anything to bring the school colors into the halls.

Locker decorating contest: Whichever student’s locker shows the most school spirit can win a prize, like movie tickets or a pizza party.

Host a pep rally: Gather the student body into the gymnasium and talk about the pride you have in your school, upcoming events for the year, and a reminder that students should always feel comfortable speaking to staff members.

Sell high school apparel and spirit wear: What better way to show unity than gear that represents the school? High school t shirts, hoodies and other merchandise purchased from and sold through Rokkitwear give part of the profits right back to the school!

Promoting school unity with students and staff sets a positive tone for the school year. Students should always feel safe in school, and should always be aware that teachers, counselors and other administration are a resource they can use to discuss their concerns and seek guidance.
