The back-to-school season is upon us. Parents have probably already purchased new notebooks, pens, binders and all of the other required school supplies, but have you helped your student update their wardrobe? Not only is it a new school year, but the weather will be changing soon. T-shirts and shorts will soon be replaced by hoodies and sweat pants. This is a great time to clean out closets, get rid of old clothes that aren’t being worn any more, and replace them with fresh new high school apparel. Here are a few steps parents and students can take together to clean up those closets:
- Pull out clothes that have been folded up or shoved in the back. Are they back there because your student is no longer wearing them or have they just been forgotten? If it hasn’t been worn in a while or doesn’t fit, consider creating a donations pile to drop off at a local pick-up site.
- Don’t forget about shoes. Have your child try on shoes from last year or the year before. Have their feet grown? It might be time to replace some beat up old sneakers. Plus, with fall coming it is important to make sure they have shoes that fit for inclement weather, like boots and closed toe shoes.
- What is your child’s favorite item? Do they love the comfort and ease of their high school t-shirts? Now is a great time to purchase a hoodie or sweater that can be a new comfy favorite but still be worn into the cooler months.
- Do you have all the basics? Several pairs of well-fitting jeans and solid colored tops are great groundwork for more looks. Blazers, scarves or jewelry can be added to spice up any outfit and take it from day to night. Outerwear for all seasons is also essential.
It is important to keep your student’s closet full of wearable, grab-n-go items. High school t-shirts and hoodies are easy to throw on and be comfortable for a long day of school. Whether your student is trendy or more laid back, there are many fun styles out there available for them.
